Having seen the latest trailer for “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” recently, there’s no doubt in my mind why Peter Jackson’s adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s classics are considered gold in Hollywood. Thus, I am simply delighted to bring to you a production video that takes us behind the scenes of “The Hobbit” trilogy.

This insider video premiered last night during a fan Q&A, and delves into the “pickups” that took place throughout May, June and July this year. With second unit director Andy Serkis busy working on “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”, Jackson’s longtime colleague Christian Rivers stepped up to work on the pickups.

The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece ”The Hobbit”, by J.R.R. Tolkien, ”The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.
