Adrien Brody and Sam Neill will flank a noteworthy troupe of thesps in director Michael Petroni’s “Backtrack”, a psychological thriller now shooting in New South Wales. The first official still from the film is above.

Press Release follows.

Tuesday 14 January, 2013 – Principal photography has commenced on Michael Petroni’s psychological thriller, BACKTRACK, in New South Wales. Adrien Brody (The Grand Budapest Hotel, King Kong, The Pianist) and Sam Neill (The Hunter, The Piano, Jurassic Park) lead the cast, which also features great local actors Bruce Spence, Robin McLeavy, Jenni Baird and Anna Lise Phillips.

Discussing filming in Australia with Petroni, Brody commented “The complexity and attention to detail in Michael’s storytelling greatly appeals to me. BACKTRACK is suspenseful and meaningful. The drama plays out in a nuanced manner as we explore the things that could easily haunt any man: childhood memories, loss. Guilt or ghost, our past has a way of keeping us from being present.”

BACKTRACK is the second feature directed and written by Michael Petroni (Till Human Voices Wake Us). Petroni has achieved significant success as a Hollywood screenwriter, responsible for screenplays of films including The Book Thief, The Rite and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

Petroni comments “I’m very excited to be directing again and to be working back in Australia with such a great line-up of talent. It’s an honour to be working with such gifted people as Adrien and Sam. I can’t wait for audiences to see this film. I hope they get a real thrill out of it – I wanted to write something that kept one step ahead of the audience.”

Shooting commenced in Sydney on 6 January and is scheduled to wrap in mid-February. Filming will take place in Sydney as well as the Central West region of New South Wales.

Jamie Hilton (The Waiting City, Sleeping Beauty) is producing for See Pictures alongside Antonia Barnard (The Painted Veil, The Quiet American) & Michael Petroni. Madman Entertainment will distribute BACKTRACK in Australia and New Zealand, while Bankside Films is handling international sales. Bankside Films will be launching the film to the international market at the forthcoming EFM in Berlin.

BACKTRACK is financed by Screen Australia, Head Gear Films, Star Gate, Screen NSW, Deluxe Australia, Bankside Films & Madman Entertainment.
