“Southland” and “The OC” star Ben McKenzie has been cast as young Jim Gordon on FOX’s ‘Batman’ prequel series “Gotham”.

Housed at Warner Bros Television, the series explores the origin stories of Commission James Gordon – played in the most recent ‘Batman’ films by Gary Oldman – and the villains that made Gotham famous (including The Penguin/Oswald Cobblepot, believed to be the bad guy we’ll see first on the series). A young Bruce Wayne will also appear in the series.

Bruno Heller (”The Mentalist”, ”Rome”) wrote the pilot and serves as EP, alongside “Judge Dredd” helmer Danny Cannon, who also helms the pilot.
