Ed Zwick (“Love and Other Drugs”) is in talks to helm “Jack Reacher” sequel, according to Deadline.
Tom Cruise, who plays the title role, worked with Zwick on historical actioner “Last Samurai” about a decade ago.
Christopher McQuarrie, who helmed the first flick, hasn’t had time to get involved in the follow-up because of his commitments to another Cruise starrer, “Mission Impossible : Rogue Nation”.
Should Zwick get the thumbs up from Paramount and Skydance, he and Marshall Herskovitz (”The Last Samurai”, ”Love & Other Drugs”) will be reworking a script by Richard Wenk.
The script is reportedly based on Lee Child’s “Never Go Back”, which sees Reacher meeting up with a mysterious woman he’s been romancing over the phone, and finding himself accused of a crime he didn’t commit. Sounds rather different than the scenario of the first film.
