With the last season’s woody for magic and the supernatural, it’s good to hear that the CW’s ”Arrow” will concentrate on more grounded threats for it’s fifth season. Executive Producer Wendy Mercile says the series – starring Stephen Amell as future Justice Leaguer Green Arrow – will be going back to basics for the next batch of eps. “The show was always meant to be a gritty crime drama at its heart. And then [spin-off] The Flash came along, and oh my gosh, we have meta powers. And then Damien [Darhk, the villain of Season 4] was, well, we haven’t done magic on the show, let’s try to do that. I think for Season 5, just because it is an answer to Season 1, and we are sort of closing this chapter out, we did want to go back to our roots and figure out what is specific to this show. What is our universe? Go back to, ‘What is Arrow?’”
One of the villains this season will be played by Ivan Drago himself, Dolph Lundgren. The character? A Russian. He must break you.
There’s no sign of Dolph in the newly-released promo – nor a scene of Russians chanting “Arrow. Arrow. Arrow. Arrow” – but it’s still worth a watch anyway… catch it above the post.
