It looks more “Witches of Eastwick” than ‘beloved, goofy comic of the ’80s’ but nevertheless The CW’s “Archie” has a sweet stench. With the pilot script garnering lots of buzz online (it’s been compared to David Lynch and Mark Frost’s “Twin Peaks”), quite a few filmmakers expressing interest in working on it (CW-staple Kevin Smith says he wants to direct), and some quality ’90s icons like Luke ‘High Hair’ Perry (no longer playing the teenager though, of course) taking part, “Riverdale” is sure to do quite well – at least in it’s first year. It’s really up to the writers to guarantee holdability after that.
The series, premiering January 26, deals with local teens – including Archie, Jughead, Veronica, Betty and so on – dealing with the death of a local teen. Considering the source material, it looks quite dark. But consider me more curious than a Baldwin brother being offered a tentpole.
