Princess Leia will be seen in “Star Wars Episode IX”, The brother of the late Carrie Fisher says.
Todd Fischer says his family has approved a proposal to see Fisher’s Leia make an appearance in the final film of the currently trilogy.
Speaking to New York Daily News, Fisher says he and niece Billie Lourd, Fisher’s daughter, have granted Disney and Lucasfilm permission to use recent footage of the actress in the 2019 sequel.
“Both of us were like, ‘Yes, how do you take her out of it?’ And the answer is, you don’t,” said Todd Fisher Thursday at the TCM Classic Film Festival in Los Angeles.
It’s not known how Leia will be reincorporated into the movie – whether it’s via unused footage or (despite claiming they won’t be doing it) CGI or a stand-in.
“I’m not the only part in that equation, but I think the people deserve to have her,” said Fisher. “She’s owned by them.”
Fisher had completed all her work on “The Last Jedi”, due out December, before her tragic passing.
