Universal had scheduled a sequel to 2008’s “Mamma Mia! The Movie”, to be released next summer with the original cast. Good news for fans of ABBA and the film, but bad news in that we’ll likely have to hear Pierce Brosnan sing again.
Deadline reports that the flick will be written and directed by Ol Parker (from “The Best Exotic Maragold Hotel”) and the original producers will return – Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman. It will also be set on the same location of Greek Island Kalokairi.
The original cast featured Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Julie Walters and Christine Baranski, but no doubt there will be a bunch of new faces as well.
The film will have a whole new bunch of ABBA songs to sing along to, and some old faves as well. Coming to theatres July 20 2018.
