Sony’s “Barbie” movie is apparently negotiating with Anne Hathaway to star as the lead, according to The Tracking Board. Previously Amy Schumer was attached to the role, but bowed out due to scheduling conflicts.
Hathaway is certainly a different choice to Schumer, who would have brought a unique style to Barbie, who we all know as a skinny, well endowed platinum blonde. The Tracking Board is also reporting that Alethea Jones is in talks to direct the film.
Of course it’s very early days in Hathaway’s supposed negotiations, so it’s by no means confirmed news. However “Barbie” is slated for release June 29, 2018- which isn’t too far away, so Sony better get cracking on that casting.
The live-action comedy will be produced by Barbie creators Mattel, with Amy Pascal, Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald.
