YouTube Red’s “Cobra Kai” is already a big hit – just one day out of the gate.
The “Karate Kid” sequel series, starring Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, premiered on YouTube’s $10-a-month streaming service (or on their $40-a-month TV service) yesterday. If initial viewing numbers are anything to go by, YouTube Red are already in the money.
According to YouTube, via a chat with Decider, episode one of “Cobra Kai” clocked 5.4 million views within the first 24 hours. That’s double the amount of views that Netflix’s “Lost in Space” – reportedly the most-watched show in its first week in release after “Stranger Things” – snagged.
Though the first two episodes of the show were available free, the next eight were only available with a YouTube Red subscription. Still, considering how many seem to have ‘binge watched’ the entire first season yesterday, that’s gotta amount to some new subscribers – and then some.
YouTube tell Decider that they’re very keen to greenlight a second season of “Cobra Kai” already.
