Game of Thrones alum boards Sopranos movie

“The Many Saints of Newark” inches towards the starting line

The highly-anticipated Deadwood ”Sopranos” movie is inching forward.

The prequel to the ground-breaking noughties series – the small-screen equivalent of gangster flick “Goodfellas”, in terms of rewatchability factor and memorable moments – has snagged “Terminator : Genisys” helmer Alan Taylor to steer “The Many Saints of Newark” towards the starting line.

Written by series creator David Chase and ‘’Sopranos’’ writer Lawrence Konner, “Newark” is set in the era of the Newark riots in the 1960s, when African-Americans and Italians in New Jersey were at each other’s throats and, among the gangsters of each group, it became lethal. Reports suggest one of the main characters in the flick is Tony Soprano’s father.

Taylor, while best known for directing iffy studio efforts like the recent “Terminator” reboot (yawn) and “Thor : The Dark World” (we all gotta start somewhere), won praise for his work on HBO’s “Game of Thrones”. Hopefully Taylor’s journey into Soprano-ville is as positive an experience for the audience as his previous ‘series work’ is.
