I think it’s fair to say that most are excitedly wary when it comes to all things “Star Wars” now. The original films were fantastic, of course, but even the most die-hard “Star Wars” fan will admit to being more than a little disappointed by each of the three films that made up the prequel trilogy a few years back. But with a refreshing change of guard at Lucasfilm, and predominately, new directors for the next “Star Wars” trilogy, I think we’re quietly confident that “The Force Awakens” will be a considerably more rewarding time than “The Phantom Menace” was.
And seems, if this guy’s opinion means anything (and it should, he’s a legend and he’s well versed in ‘Star Wars’ lore!), the assumption would be correct – and then some.
Following the “Force Awakens” presentation at D23, Movie Weekly caught up with notable movie poster artist Drew Struzan – who did a poster for the new film, as well as the previous entries in the franchise – who said he’s not only seen the film, but that it’s likely going to be the “best” of the “Star Wars” movies.
I’ve never worked with J.J [Abrams] before and so we started working on it and he showed me like half the movie and it was just… a wonderful film and I know it’s going to be grand. I got to read the script and subsequently I’ve seen half of it and I can tell you and the fans this, Honest to god, it is far and away probably going to be the best Star Wars you’ve ever seen.
While Struzan might be seen as being on the Lucasfilm payroll – having just done their “Force Awakens” poster – I guess he could simply have issued a polite ‘no comment’ when asked about the film, if he didn’t enjoy it. But he goes on…
Well it’s beautifully made and it’s a wonderful story.
‘Wonderful story’ and ‘beautifully made’ is all we needed to hear.
Until December, that might be the only ‘review’ we’ll get.
