Abrams confirms Star Wars in IMAX

Despite rumors that he’d be filming quite a lot of “Star Wars : Episode VII” in the IMAX format, director JJ Abrams tells Variety that it’s really only one sequence that was captured with the IMAX cameras.

The benefits outweigh the headache of shooting on IMAX cameras. The opportunity to have an action sequence for this movie done in IMAX’s natural format was too delicious an idea to pass up. As a filmgoer, it’s something I want to see.

No word on what sequence Abrams has shot in IMAX but the cameras were spotted on the ‘Tatooine’ set earlier this year, so chances are it’ll be for something spectacular in the sands.

Abrams’ installments in the “Mission : Impossible” and “Star Trek” series also integrated IMAX sequences.
