Afonso Poyart – TWO RABBITS & SOLACE

Afonso Poyart might not be a name American are familiar with yet however it’s about to be. The Brazilian filmmaker’s directorial debut “Two Rabbits,” (2 Coelhos) which Poyart also wrote will be hitting America on January 19th, 2015 on VOD and iTunes. The film – Portuguese with English subtitles- is a crime thriller full of kidnapping, murder and theft that intertwines two stories and paints in-depth portraits of the character’s mental states during the events in the film. The film features a very unique style of direction full of cool CGIs, special effects, intense performances and of course a lot of fun action sequences. It was his work on this film that secured him the role as director for the upcoming “Solace.”

“Solace,” stars Anthony Hopkins (“Silence of the Lambs”)  as John Clancy, a doctor with psychic abilities who is asked by his friend, FBI Agent Joe Merriweather (Jeffrey Dean Morgan, “Supernatural”) to help catch serial killer Charles Ambrose (Colin Farrell). There is just only issue, Ambrose is also a psychic and he is a better, much, much better.

About a week ago I had the pleasure of speaking with Poyart over the phone, we talked about how the directorial style of “Two Rabbits” compares to “Solace,” working with a budget of less then $5,000,000.00 for “Two Rabbits” compared to working with a budget of at least $30,000,000.00 for “Solace,” and the experience of directing his own script verse directing another writer’s work. Note that due to interference from the connecting phone lines some parts of the conversation may be difficult to hear. To listen to the call click the player below. Again, “Two Rabbits” hits VOD and iTunes on January 19th. “Solace” is set to come out late summer of this year.
