It’s the summer of 1990 all over again! (we just need that “Almost an Angel” remake, now).
One of the funnest films of that year’s movie season, director Frank Marshall’s family spider thriller “Arachnophobia” is getting the remake treatment. James Wan, currently finalizing upcoming family tentpole “Aquaman”, heads up the producer’s committee on the film.
Though Deadline, who have the news, report that the film is a ‘remake’ of the movie, which starred Jeff Daniels, Julian Sands and John Goodman, a tweet from Wan suggests the film might in-fact be a sequel – featuring Goodman’s popular exterminator character from the first film.

The original movie, released by Disney’s Hollywood Pictures label, and produced by Amblin and Tamgled Wed Prods, focused on a newly discovered Venezuelan spider being transported to a small American town and producing a new species of deadly spiders, which begin killing the town’s residents. Daniels play the family-man hero of the piece, with Goodman the comical relief, an over-confident exterminator-for-hire.
Wan will produce under his ‘Atomic Monster’ label. Marshall, who made his directorial debut on the original, will be an EP here.
