Batman coming to New Jersey?

www.superherohype.com reported a story that Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises” may be looking to do some filming in Newark, New Jersey.
Newark Mayor Cory Booker tweeted:
“Met with the producer and studio team for the next Batman Movie,” he wrote, “Great people! They hope to film scenes in Nwk. Holy Brick City Batman! POW!”
With Chicago being used in “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight” and Pittsburgh being used for “The Dark Knight Rises”, Newark, while not a sprawling Metropolis, can definitely capture some of the grittiness that Nolan has incorporated for a modern day Gotham City.
New Jersey’s recent history in film has been associated with more Indy films rather than big studio projects. Zach Braff’s “Garden State”, Darren Aronofsky’s “The Wrestler” and the Kevin Smith Jay and Silent Bob films “Clerks I & II”, “Mallrats” and “Chasing Amy” all taking place in Tony Soprano’s home state.
For a state known for crime and corruption, we do have our share of heroes. Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Frank Sinatra and even John McLane aka Bruce Willis is from Jersey. Without a doubt, The Dark Knight would be more than welcome in the Garden State!
“The Dark Knight Rises” starring Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine is currently in production. Directed by Christopher Nolan, it’s slated for release July 20, 2012.
