Bell rings for Damon and Wahlberg’s Fighter

New Paramount movie about rough Boston chaps

Really looking forward to this one. Seriously. Yeah I know, I don’t say that much, but this time it’s true, promise. There’s at least one movie in the near future that I will be excited to see. Might even splurge and buy a large Diet Coke to bring in with me.

“Departed” (anything to do with that film is good in my book!) co-stars Mark Wahlberg and Matt Damon – funnily enough, Wahlberg was originally set to star in the “Ocean’s” series, but was replaced by Damon, so wonder whether there’s any daggers between them? – are set to reunite on Paramount Pictures’ “The Fighter”, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Based on the life of boxer “Irish” Mickey Ward (Wahlberg) and his trainer brother Dick Eklund (Damon), the story chronicles the brothers’ early days on the rough streets of Lowell, Mass., through Eklund’s battle with drugs and Ward’s eventual world championship in London. Wahlberg and Damon both hail from Boston.

Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson penned the screenplay. However, sources said Wahlberg and Damon’s involvement is contingent on a Paul Attanasio rewrite, which is due in a few weeks.

“I’ve been dying to do a boxing movie my whole career,” Wahlberg said in a recent interview. “I’ve been close to doing two, and they kinda fell apart, but it’s something I’m very excited about.”

…. Might even buy some Pretzels too.
