Beloved Webster star Alex Karras, dead at 77

Footballer cum actor Alex Karras, probably best remembered as Webster’s pop on the hit ’80s sitcom, sadly died today.

The 77 year old, who served as an NFL Pro Bowl defensive lineman before turning his attention to acting, suffered from dementia and recently suffered kidney failure.

Karras’s acting career got underway when he played himself in the Alan Alda starring “White Lion”, which consequently lead to roles in Mel Brooks’ “Blazing Saddles”, the Jeff Bridges/Rachel Ward thriller “Against All Odds”, comedy classic “Porky’s”, and, of course, “Webster” playing sensitive dad, George Papadapolis.

Here’s Karras in some classic “Webster” :
Rest in Peace, sir.
