Ok, stop with all this “the new Alien movie is going to skip over the events of Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection”.
Nobody ever said that. Neil Blomkamp never said it.
All the director of the upcoming “Alien” movie said was that “I want this film to feel like it is literally the genetic sibling of Aliens. So it’s Alien, Aliens and then this movie.”
He never said it would be a direct sequel to “Aliens”, only that he wouldn’t be paying too much attention to what came after it. He’s not going to rewrite the history of the franchise, nor is he going to pretend Ripley never killed herself or got to meet her alien baby before blowing it out of a window, he’s simply going to tell a story that will be closer in tone and be linked more so to the first two films. Blomkamp won’t forget “Alien 3” and “Alien Resurrection” existed, he’ll simply include what he has to from them but otherwise make a movie for fans of the first two films in the science-fiction series. And yes, I imagine he’s going to have to come up with a pretty good explanation as to why Hicks (Michael Biehn) is still alive when he was clearly alien dust at the beginning of “Alien 3” (having said that, if you’ve seen the pictures you’ll have noticed that Hicks’ face is partly-mutilated, the result of the Alien’s acid-drops dryhumping his face at the end of Jim Cameron’s film). Heck, maybe he’ll even resurrect [the seemingly also dead] Newt (Carrie Henn) as well?
But whatever the film is, it won’t and can’t ignore the most two recent “Alien” movies – it just won’t spend a lot of time remembering them either.
