Sam Raimi is circling Lionsgate’s adaptation of “The Kingkiller Chronicle,” based on Pat Rothfuss’ classic novels. “Transformers : The Last Knight” writer Lindsey Beer will pen the film, which will be based on the first book in the series, “The Name of the Wind”. The series is centered on the wizard Kvothe, who survives a tragic childhood to become a notorious household name.
Michael K. Williams (“Assassin’s Creed”) and Esai Morales (“Caprica”) have signed on for Sony’s “Superfly” redo.
Freeform, Disney’s young adult television network, announced today that rising star Sofia Carson (“Descendants”) has joined the cast of the drama pilot “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists.” Carson will play Ava, a beautiful trendsetting blogger and coder, who strives to be a fashion icon. She joins “Pretty Little Liars” stars Sasha Pieterse and Janel Parrish in the spinoff pilot.
Carson will also appear on the upcoming season of Freeform’s series “Famous in Love,” which like “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists” is executive produced by I. Marlene King. Carson will guest star on the series as Sloane, the daughter of a movie mogul, who becomes entwined with Paige Townsen and her friends. The second season of “Famous in Love” will premiere on Wednesday, April 4th at 8:00 PM ET/PT on Freeform, streaming, and on demand.
Australian director Patrick Hughes (“The Hitman’s Bodyguard”) is reportedly directing “Unsafe House” for Lionsgate. The Adam J. Epstein and Andrew Jacobson penned thriller tells of “three friends who rent a Bahamas beach house over the summer for some R&R, only to come and realize that the location is actually a MI-6 safe house already occupied by a CIA operative. When the house comes under attack, the three friends must team up with the spy in order to survive the ordeal.”
Actor Robbie Jones (”One Tree Hill”, ”Necessary Roughness”) has joined the cast of New Line’s “Shaft” sequel.
Sony Pictures has tapped “Mudbound” co-writer Virgil Williams to adapt Dana Canedy’s bestselling 2008 memoir “A Journal for Jordan”. Denzel Washington, producing, is eyeing the film as his next to direct.”The novel tells the true story of Pulitzer-winning journalist Canedy and her love affair with First Sgt. Charles Monroe King, who kept a journal of poignant life lessons for their newborn son Jordan while deployed overseas. King was killed in Iraq in 2006 when Jordan was 7 months old, but his lessons live on.”
Elisabeth Moss (“Mad Men”) will produce and star in Bow and Arrow Entertainment’s “Her Smell” for writer-director Alex Ross Perry. The thesp will star as ”Becky Something, a maniacally destructive punk rock star who pushes her relationships with bandmates, family, and followers to the limit as she wages a years-long war against sobriety while attempting to re-engage the creativity that had once led her band to massive crossover success.”
“DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” star Brandon Routh will star in a new live-action take on “Anastasia”. The former Superman plays Czar Nicholas, the father of the title character, in the re-imagining of the classic story in which Anastasia Romanov escapes through a portal when her family is threatened by Vladimir Lenin and finds herself in the year 1988.
Production on Blake Lively’s spy thriller “The Rhythm Section” has been suspended indefinitely while the actress recovers from her hand injury.“Hiatus on the production of ‘The Rhythm Section’ has been extended due to the hand injury Blake Lively sustained while filming an action sequence on the action thriller at the end of last year,” said producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson of EON Productions in London, along with Global Road Entertainment, and Paramount Pictures. The movie had been dated for a Feb 22, 2019 release.
SYFY announced today a second season pickup of the network’s original series “HAPPY!”, starring Christopher Meloni and featuring the voice of Patton Oswalt. From Universal Cable Productions, this twisted graphic novel adaptation has been hailed as “one of the craziest, most utterly off-the-wall TV series ever produced” by The New York Times Syndicate and launched as the network’s best series premiere since January 2016 across all key demos. The shocking Season 1 finale is set to air this Wednesday, January 31 at 10/9c on SYFY.
