Bumblebee begins production

The first “Transformers” spinoff “Bumblebee” has begun principal photography, as confirmed by Paramount Pictures. They’re shooting primarily in California, with new cast members joining the group, including heavyweight John Cena, Pamela Adlon and Kenneth Choi. The Travis Knight directed film has finally had plot details revealed, to accompany the announcement of production.

On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken.  When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.

The flick is largely made up of newcomers, including stars Hailee Steinfeld, Stephen Schneider, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Jason Drucker, Ricardo Hoyos, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow and Grace Dzienny. “Transformers” veteran director Michael Bay will be in the producer’s seat for the film alongside Lorenzo di Bonaventura. “Bumblebee” has also been given a release date of December 21, 2018, delaying its original date by a few months.
