Cable, Joker rumors : Is the Joke on Us?

In today’s episode of ‘clutching at straws’, the internet is erect for a couple of potential casting rumours – reportedly exclusively by abstract social media posts, of course.

Firstly, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman took a photo with former 007 Pierce Brosnan this week, leading everyone and their associated press account to assume that the silver-haired fox will soon be trading funnies with Reynolds in the “Deadpool” sequel. The role everyone has him pegged for is that of ‘Cable’ – seeing as it’s the biggest role, besides Deadpool, that needs human attachment right now.

Wolvie. Bond. Wade.

While it’s quite likely there is something to this – and if not, shame on Reynolds and Jackman for taking a photo with a human being. Don’t they know what we’re going to assume!? – let’s also remember that celebs take photos with each other all the time. They meet in the green room of a late night TV show, or backstage at an awards show, and suddenly feel the need to tell everyone that they caught up. That could have been the case here, too – Jackman, Reynolds and Brosnan, three guys renowned for playing supermen (tell me Brosnan’s 007 wasn’t under Nick Fury’s charge!?), likely knew people would get a kick out of seeing them all together. Could be as simple as that. At the same time, considering he’s the right age for the role of Cable, and brings with him some much-needed action legend chops, Brosnan would be a pretty sturdy fit for the part. And my goodness, poor Pierce could use the break.. have you seen any of his films lately!?

In other ‘Don’t screw with us, dude’ news , Jared Leto is posting pics on his Snapchat (via Comic Book Movie) that’s prompted the world wide wacky web to assume he’s about to put on the ‘Joker’ make-up again. The actor, who made his debut as the clown prince of crime in “Suicide Squad”, would seem to be hinting at an appearance in either “The Batman” or “Gotham City Sirens”. Or both.

And yes, Leto apparently loathed playing The Joker, and reportedly wasn’t too big of a fan of the theatrical cut of “Suicide Squad”, but a contract is a contract and if Warner Bros has the option on him for numerous multiple return visits as The Joker, it’s likely we’ll be seeing that hand-smile again.

With “The Batman” still a ways off, it’s likely Leto’s referring to an appearance in “Gotham City Sirens”, which will focus on some of the femme fatales of the city – including the main man’s squeeze, Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie.

Don’t lose too much sleep tonight, guys – all will be revealed soon.
