Casting: Adams, Iron Fist, Parsons, And Then There Was Light

HBO has nabbed “Sharp Objects”, a drama series starring Amy Adams.

The eight-episode first season is based on Gillian Flynn’s book which “centers on reporter Camille Preaker (Adams) who, fresh from a brief stay at a psychiatric hospital, must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. Trying to put together a psychological puzzle from her past, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims a bit too closely” (via Deadline).

Marti Noxon is showrunner, Jean-Marc Vallée is director and Flynn is co-writer with Noxon.

Jessica Hardwick will play Colleen Wing on Marvel and Netflix’s “Iron Fist”.

She joins fellow “Game of Thrones” actor Finn Jones in the series which follows Danny Rand (Jones), who returns to New York City after being missing for years. He fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.

In the comics, Colleen Wing was raised in Japan by her grandfather where she trained as a samurai. As an adult, she moved to New York City where her father, Professor Lee Wing, worked at Columbia University. When his Oriental studies led to the professor being targeted by the deadly Cult of Kara Kai, both Wings crossed paths with Iron Fist for the first time. It was soon thereafter that Colleen Wing’s life was saved by Misty Knight. Becoming best friends, the pair formed a private detective agency, Knightwing Restorations, Ltd. Thanks to a moniker from Rand, however, Knight and Wing soon became better known as the “Daughters of the Dragon.

Scott Buck (“Dexter”) will serve as show runner of the series which is expected to premiere next year.

Jim Parsons will play the head engineer at the Space Task Group at NASA in director Ted Melfi’s “Hidden Figures”.

According to Deadline, “the Fox 2000 film is about a team of unsung heroes in American history: African-American female math wizards who helped NASA win the space race. Octavia Spencer, Taraji P. Henson and Janelle Monae star as the trio of mathematicians who help out the space program.”

Adapted from Margot Lee Shetterly’s book by scribe Allison Schroeder, the film is expected to release next January.

Amy Smart, Burt Reynolds and Jack Griffo will star in inspirational family drama “And Then There Was Light”, with Castille Landon directing from her own script.

“The story centers on a young girl who loses her eyesight after a traumatic accident. Her parents seek out various options to help her adjust, including enrolling her in a program for seeing-eye dogs, but she is unable to connect until the head trainer of Southeastern Guide Dogs trains a miniature horse to be her companion” (via Variety).

Smart is attached to play the mother of the girl and Reynolds will play the trainer.
