Casting: Ready Player One, Pretty Little Liars, Holt, Birch, Drone

T.J. Miller (“Silicon Valley”) has joined the cast of Steven Spielberg’s “Ready Player One”.

Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Simon Pegg, Ben Mendelsohn and Mark Rylance co-star.

Based on the sci-fi novel by Ernest Cline, the film “is set in a virtual world called Oasis, in which a teenager (Sheridan) finds himself competing in a treasure hunt against ruthless foes after the reclusive and enigmatic founder (Rylance) of the game dies and offers his fortune as the grand prize” (via THR).

Miller will play i-R0k, an annoying troller in the online forums of the game.

 

 

Brant Daugherty is returning to reprise his role as Noel Kahn on the seventh season of “Pretty Little Liars”, reports Variety.

Why and in what capacity Noel will be back, we’re not yet sure. The seventh season is still being written.

“Pretty Little Liars” returns to Freeform on June 21 at 8PM.

 

 

Sandrine Holt (“Fear the Walking Dead”) has joined Dennis Quaid, Kate Bosworth, Christian Cooke and Cary Elwes in the Crackle series “The Art of More”.

We don’t have any details on Holt’s character yet.

The second season is yet to receive a premiere date, though production is already underway.

 

 

Thora Birch has joined political thriller “Public Affairs”.

Adrian Grenier and Mimi Rogers are also in the cast with Eric Bross attached to direct from a script by Tom Cudworth.

Variety has the news, reporting: “Public Affairs” follows a young campaign aide who sleeps with a presidential candidate’s wife — a mistake that sends him into a downward spiral of corruption and blackmail. He is left fighting not only for his career, but also his life. Birch will play a childhood friend of the aide who makes her living by exposing political figures personal scandals.

 

 

Mary McCormack and Joel David Moore will star in political thriller “Drone”, opposite Sean Bean and Patrick Sanogui.

Jason Bourque is directing from the script he co-wrote with Paul A. Birkett.

The film follows a private drone contractor (Bean) who spends his workdays flying covert missions then returns to a family life of suburban mediocrity — without his wife or son knowing about his secret life — until a whistle-blowing site exposes him to a deadly threat. An enigmatic Pakistani businessman (Sabongui) soon tracks Bean’s character down, believing he is responsible for the deaths of his wife and child.

McCormack will play Bean’s wife and Moore will play his colleague.
