Casting: Detroit Riots Film, Papillon, Rose, Elgort, Sleepy Hollow

Will Poulter, Ben O’Toole and Jack Reynor have been added to the ensemble of Kathryn Bigelow’s upcoming film about the 1967 Detroit Riots, reports Variety.

Bigelow is directing from Mark Boal’s script. John Boyega is also in the cast.

The crime drama is set against the backdrop of Detroit’s devastating 1967 riots that spanned five days.

Bigelow and Boal are producing with Megan Ellison, Matthew Budman and Colin Wilson. Greg Shapiro will exec produce.

 

 

Rami Malek (“Mr. Robot”) is in talks to star with Charlie Hunnam in a remake of 1973 film “Papillon”.

Hunnam is on board to play the role originated by Steve McQueen while Malek would take on Dustin Hoffman’s role.

According to Deadline, the film is a “contemporary retelling” of the original, which centered on convicted felon and fugitive Henri Charriere. He staged an epic escape from Devil’s Island, a notorious penal colony in French Guiana in South America, aided by quirky counterfeiter Louis Dega.

Michael Noer will direct from a script by Aaron Guzikowski. Producers are Joey McFarland, Riza Aziz, David Koplan, Ram Bergman and Roger Corbi.

 

 

Following the casting of Jessica McNamee yesterday, another Aussie has been added to the cast of Warner Bros shark pic “Meg”.

Ruby Rose (“Orange is the New Black”) will play an engineering genius in the film opposite McNamee, Jason Statham and Fan Bingbing.

Jon Turtletaub is directing.

Based on Steve Allten’s book, the latest draft of the script was penned by Jamie Vanderbilt and centres on a 70-foot, 40-ton prehistoric shark known as Carcharodon Megalodon (aka Meg).

“Meg” is slated for release on March 2, 2018.

 

 

Ansel Elgort is set to play twins in indie film “Jonathan”.

Bill Oliver will direct the film from a script he wrote with Peter Nickowitz.

The film follows Jonathan, “a successful architect who lives a normal life dictated by a strict routine. Jonathan’s twin brother John, on the other hand, sleeps all day and spends the night secretly socializing. When Jonathan discovers that John has a secret girlfriend, Elena, he forces John to end things and then starts a new relationship Elena out of curiosity and jealousy. John ultimately catches wind of the affair, which puts his relationship with his brother at serious risk and forces Jonathan to seek the help of Dr. Mina Nariman, the brothers’ controlling doctor” (via Deadline).

Randy Manis and Ricky Tollman are producing and Neal Dodson is exec producing.

 

 

Jeremy Davies (“Lost”) has been cast as a new villain on the fourth season of Fox’s “Sleepy Hollow”.

Davies will play Malcolm Dreyfuss, “an eccentric and outspoken tech mogul who became a billionaire before the age of 30, and has since been seeking other worlds to conquer” (via TVLine).

“Sleep Hollow” season 4 will premiere early next year.
