Casting: Wilson, Fiennes, Meg, Paulson, Get Shorty, Silverstone, Gotham

Patrick Wilson will appear opposite Liam Neeson and Vera Farmiga in director Jaume Collet-Serra’s action thriller “The Commuter”.

Philip de Blasi and Byron Willinger penned the screenplay about an insurance salesman (Neeson) in the midst of his daily commute who is forced by a mysterious stranger (Farmiga) to uncover the identity of a passenger before the train’s last stop (via THR).

Wilson will play the salesman’s trusted friend who helps him along the way.

The Picture Company’s Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman are producing.

Hulu has cast Joseph Fiennes in its adaptation of “The Handmaid’s Tale”.

Fiennes will play Commander Fred Waterford, a founding father of Gilead who rules the household where Offred (Elisabeth Moss) is a handmaid.

The series will go into production later this year and will premiere on Hulu in 2017.

Adapted from Margaret Atwood’s influential and acclaimed novel, THE HANDMAID’S TALE is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly part of the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted religious fundamentalism that treats women as property of the state. As one of the few remaining fertile women, Offred is a Handmaid in the Commander’s household, one of the caste of women forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world. In this terrifying society where one wrong word could end her life, Offred navigates between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids – where anyone could be a spy for Gilead — all with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.

Li Bingbing is in final talks to join “Meg”, opposite Jason Statham and Jessica McNamee.

Variety has the news, also reporting co-star Fan Bingbing has exited the project due to scheduling issues.

Based on Steve Allten’s book, the latest draft of the script was penned by Jamie Vanderbilt and centres on a 70-foot, 40-ton prehistoric shark known as Carcharodon Megalodon (aka Meg).

Jon Turtletaub is directing the film which is slated for release on March 2, 2018.

Sarah Paulson is the latest addition to the cast of Ryan Murphy’s upcoming FX anthology series “Feud”.

Each installment of the anthology series will centre on a different historical feud, with season one set to focus on the legendary battle between movie stars Joan Crawford (Jessica Lange) and Bette Davis (Susan Sarandon). Paulson will play Oscar winning actress Geraldine Page.

Chris O’Dowd and Ray Romano are in negotiations to star in Epix’s 10-ep original series “Get Shorty”.

The hourlong dark comedy is a reimagining of Elmore Leonard’s 1990 bestselling thriller comedy novel which was adapted into a film by MGM in 1995. John Travolta, Danny DeVito, Gene Hackman and Rene Russo starred.

According to Deadline, “Get Shorty” centers on Miles Daly (O’Dowd), who works as muscle for a murderous crime ring in Nevada. For the sake of his daughter, he attempts to change professions and become a movie producer, laundering money through a Hollywood film. But instead of leaving the criminal world behind, he accidentally brings it with him to Los Angeles. Romano would play Rick, a washed up producer of low quality films who becomes Miles’ partner and guide through the maze of Hollywood.

Alicia Silverstone will appear opposite Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell in “The Killing of a Sacred Deer”.

Co-starring Barry Keoghan, Raffey Cassidy, Sunny Suljic and Bill Camp, the film is Yorgos Lanthimos’ follow-up to “The Lobster”.

Naian Gonzalez Norvind has been cast as “Gotham’s” Alice Tetch, the younger sister of Jervis Tetch (aka the Mad Hatter).

Set to debut in the third episode of Season 3, Alice was born with a powerful ability that she cannot control — an ability her brother believes is a gift, but that she has always seen as a curse. As such, she has spent much of her life alone, running from her brother — who will stop at nothing to be reunited in hopes of unleashing her gift on the world (via Variety).

As production continues on the third season, photos have also revealed “Marvel’s Jessica Jones” co-star Kieran Mulcare on set. At this point, it’s unclear who he will play. See an image below (via ComingSoon.net).
