Warner Bros has acquired the rights to author Jenny Mollen’s “Live Fast Die Hot” with Anne Hathaway tapped to star in a film adaptation.
Mollen wrote about a transformation of her priorities as she evolved from a social-media-centric and impulsive personality — who once invited her drug dealer to Passover Seder so he wouldn’t feel like they were only using him for drugs — to a first-time mother (via Deadline).
Karen Gillan (“Guardians of the Galaxy”) will join Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Nick Jonas in Sony’s upcoming “Jumanji” film, announced Johnson on Facebook.
Jake Kasdan is directing the reimagining of the 1981 adventure book by Chris Van Allsburg which was famously made into a movie starring Robin Williams in 1995.
“Jumanji” is set for a July 28, 2017 release.
Richard Linklater is writing and directing a long-in-the-works adaptation of the novel “Last Flag Flying” with Bryan Cranston, Steve Carell, and Laurence Fishburne in talks to star.
Darryl Ponicsan’s “Last Flag Flying” is a follow up to his 1970 novel “The Last Detail”, which was turned into a movie starring Jack Nicholson and directed by Hal Ashby. Hence, Linklater’s film will be a sequel-of-sorts to “The Last Detail” movie.
According to THR, the original story centers on two Navy men (Nicholson, Young) who are ordered to bring a young offender (Quaid) to prison but decide to show him one last good time along the way. Last Flag reunites the reader with the trio, now living a post-9/11 American life: The former Naval petty officers come to the aid of their former prisoner, who needs their help to bring home the body of his son who was killed in Iraq. The request sends them back retracing their journey from Norfolk, Va., to Portsmouth, N.H.
Shannon Purser and Robin Givens have joined the cast of “Riverdale”, The CW’s show based on the Archie comic character.
Givens has been cast in the recurring role of Mayor Sierra McCoy, reports Deadline. McCoy is not only the powerful and fabulous Mayor of Riverdale, but also the mother of soon-to-be-world-famous Josie, of Josie & The Pussycats fame. Chic and driven, Mayor McCoy is struggling to guide Riverdale through the crisis precipitated by the mysterious death of Jason Blossom, all while making sure the town’s upcoming 75th Jubilee Celebration goes off without a hitch.
Purser (who you may recognize as Barb from “Stranger Things”) will play Ethel Muggs – who has a major crush on Jughead (Cole Sprouse) in the comics – but, on “Riverdale”, will find herself in a romantic relationship with someone very different. She will also be drawn into a friendship with Veronica (Camila Mendes) and Betty (Lili Reinhart) after they team up for a revenge plot on Reggie Mantle, a bully and Archie’s rival, reports EW.

According to Deadline, the feature expands the concept and revolves around a recently released ex-con (Reynor) and his adopted younger brother who are forced to go on the run. Chased by a vengeful criminal (Franco), the feds and a cadre of otherworldly soldiers, their only protection is a found weapon of mysterious ancestry. Quaid will play the father of the siblings, and Kravitz is a young woman who joins them on the run.

Mark Steven Johnson will direct the movie which has John Finn, Rhys Coiro and Louis Lombardi in supporting roles. Keith Sharon and Ken Hixon penned the screenplay.
Based on the true story of the biggest bank heist in US history, “Finding Steve McQueen” is set in 1972 when a gang of close-knit thieves from Youngstown, Ohio attempt to steal $30 million in illegal contributions and blackmail money from President Richard Nixon’s secret fund.
Weinstein Television are developing a series based on the harrowing true story of the 1993 FBI siege of a religious sect in Waco, Texas that resulted in the deadly shoot out and fire.
Michael Shannon and Taylor Kitsch are set to star with Shannon playing lead FBI negotiator, Gary Noesener, and Kitsch in the role of David Koresh, notorious leader of the religious group.
Brothers John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle will write the series with John directing.
Shannon, Kitsch, and the Dowdle brothers will executive produce the Waco Texas siege series.
EW reports that Frederick Schmidt has been tapped to play Metallo in the upcoming season of “Supergirl”:
When international assassin John Corben is badly injured after taking on both Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and Superman (Tyler Hoechlin), he is reborn by a shadow organization into the Kryptonite-powered supervillain Metallo.
In season 2, Kara has left the safety of being Cat Grant’s assistant in order to figure out what she really wants to do, while as Supergirl she continues to work at the DEO, protecting the citizens of National City and searching for Jeremiah and Cadmus. Along the way, she will team up with Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) to battle new villains, as she strives to balance her personal life with her life as a superhero.
Melissa Benoist stars as the titular character on the show which will have its season 2 premiere on The CW on October 10.
Craig Robinson and Adam Scott are set to star in “Ghosted”, Fox’s “X-Files”-esque comedy pilot.
According to Variety, “Ghosted” follows a cynical, hilarious skeptic, Leroy Wright (Robinson), and a genius “true believer” in the paranormal, Max Allison (Scott), who are hired by the Underground Investigative Service to look into the rampant “unexplained” activity in Los Angeles — all while uncovering a larger mystery that could threaten the existence of the human race.
