Michael Pitt (“Boardwalk Empire”) will play the villain in DreamWorks’ manga adaptaion “Ghost in the Shell”.

Pitt joins Scarlett Johansson and Pilou Asbæk in the film.

In the sci-fier, Johansson plays a special-ops cyborg in a task force that deals in the most dangerous criminals and extremists.

According to THR, “Pitt will play a character known as the Laughing Man in the manga. The antagonist is a bitter and vengeful man with a body that is part robot. He has a unique sense of style and has been described as a bad guy filtered through the lens of a street artist.”

Rupert Sanders is directing with production expected to get underway later this month in New Zealand.

Jason Patric has joined the second season of Fox’s psychological thriller “Wayward Pines” in a leading role.

Patric will play Dr. Theo Yedlin, a confident, driven surgeon whose leadership skills will prove invaluable to the residents of Wayward Pines.

From exec producer M. Night Shyamalan, “Wayward Pines” season two will pick up after the events of season one as the residents of Wayward Pines battle against the iron-fisted rule of the First Generation. Patric’s Yedlin – a new resident of Wayward Pines – awakens from suspended animation and finds himself in the middle of this rebellion, as he tries to understand what Wayward Pines really is and help preserve the endangered human race.

Singer Seal is on board to play Pontius Pilate in Fox’s upcoming musical event “The Passion”.

Seal joins previously announced host and narrator Tyler Perry, and cast members Jencarlos Canela, Chris Daughtry, Prince Royce and Trisha Yearwood. Peter Barsocchini’s take on “The Passion” tells the 2000-year-old story of the last hours of Jesus Christ’s life on earth through passages from the Bible and a variety of contemporary popular music, sung by the cast, and arranged by executive producer and music producer Adam Anders. Set in modern day, the event will follow Jesus of Nazareth as he presides over the Last Supper, and then is betrayed by Judas, put on trial by Pontius Pilate, convicted, crucified and resurrected. The two-hour broadcast will air on Palm Sunday, March 20 at 8 p.m. (live ET, tape-delayed PT).

Tony Shalhoub has joined CBS’ comedic political thriller “BrainDead”.

Shalhoub will play Red Wheatus, “a hard-drinking, fun-loving Republican senator who has spent decades in Washington making deals, until a radical transformation turns him into a health-conscious extremist who would rather destroy the government than compromise.”
