John Goodman will play former Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis in “Patriots Day”, CBS Films and Lionsgate’s Boston Marathon bombing thriller, reports Variety.

Mark Wahlberg and J.K. Simmons are also in the film which will be directed by Peter Berg from Matt Charman’s script based on the account of Davis.

The movie will open on December 21, 2016.

 

 

Kirsten Dunst is joining Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monae, and Kevin Costner in Ted Melfi’s “Hidden Figures”.

According to Deadline, “Hidden Figures tells the untold true story of the African-American female mathematicians at NASA who provided the calculations that helped fuel some of America’s greatest achievements in space. The story is told through the personal accounts of the four women known as the “Colored Computers,” and their accomplishment is set against the background of the Jim Crow South and the civil rights movement.”

 

 

Tom Taylor will star opposite Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey in the adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower”.

Taylor will play Jake Chambers, “the protege of Roland Deschain (Elba)” (via Variety).

Abbey Lee is also in the cast with Nikolaj Arcel directing the movie.

“The Dark Tower” is set to bow on February 17, 2017.

 

 

Sarah Wayne Callies is attached to reprise her role as Dr. Sara Tancredi in Fox’s upcoming event series “Prison Break”.

Set to premiere during the 2016-2017 season, the series also stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, who reprise their roles as brothers Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows, respectively.

In the drama’s new chapter, which picks up after Michael’s apparent death, Sara has moved on with her life, raising her and Michael’s child with her new husband (previously announced guest star Mark Feuerstein, “Royal Pains”).  When clues surface suggesting that Michael may be alive, Sara teams with Lincoln to engineer the series’ biggest escape ever.

 

 

Ashley Thomas will star opposite Corey Hawkins in Fox’s “24: Legacy” pilot.

Miranda Otto, Teddy Sears, Dan Bucatinsky and Jimmy Smits are also in the cast of the “24” reboot, which “centers on military hero Eric Carter (Hawkins) and chronicles his return to the U.S. and the trouble that follows him back – compelling him to ask CTU for help in saving his life, and stopping what potentially could be one of the largest-scale terror attacks on American soil” (via Deadline).

Thomas will play Isaac Carter, Eric’s older brother who is angry at Eric because of their bitter past – which includes Eric now married to Isaac’s former girlfriend, Nicole (Anna Diop).

 

 

Sam Neill has nabbed the lead role in AMC’s upcoming original series “The Son”.

Based on Philipp Meyer’s novel, the series is a multi-generational epic telling of the story of America’s birth as a superpower through the bloody rise and fall of one Texas family.

Co-stars include Henry Garrett, Zahn McClarnon, Paola Nunez and Sydney Lucas.

Production will begin in Austin in June and the 10 one-hour eps will premiere next year.

 

 

Newcomers Josh Wiggins and Odeya Rush have joined the upcoming ensemble “The Bachelors”, which stars J.K. Simmons and Julie Delpy.

The comedy drama sees a widower and his 17-year-old son, hoping for a fresh start, move from a small northern California town to Los Angeles. There, a new job, a new school, a wry old friend and two extraordinary women play a transformative role in the reshaping of their lives.

Kurt Voelker wrote the script and directs.
