Charlie McDermott to ditch The Middle for Super Clyde?!

Charlie McDermott has landed the lead role in CBS comedy pilot “Super Clyde” from Greg Garcia.

Deadline reports “The Middle” star will play the titular character; “a meek, unassuming fast-food worker who finds his calling.”

There’s also rumours that Steven Fry may come on board.

But what does this mean for the future of McDermott’s role on “The Middle”?

Well, the actor’s “Middle” contract runs out at the end of the current season, along with those of his co-stars. As ABC is notorious for not renewing series’ until May, this leaves the cast of “The Middle” is some kind of limbo, despite assumptions that the show will continue.

So while McDermott’s commitment to “Super Clyde” may ruffle some feathers over at ABC and WBTV, it’s hard to fault the actor for locking in some work for himself. And should “Super Clyde” get the go ahead to go to series, perhaps McDermott will downgrade his presence on the veteran comedy show from regular to recurring star.

Head over to Deadline for the full breakdown.
