Chestnut’s Not Easily Broken

A new faith-based drama from Screen Gems

Sony Screen Gems are in love with Morris Chestnut at the moment – he’s the chap from 1991’s “Boyz N’The Hood”, remember?– and don’t plan on uncuffing him anytime yet.

The edibly-named Chestnut headlined Screen Gems pricey but fruitless “The Cave” a year or so back, and now, he’s about to play headline act to “Not Easily Broken”, a new faith-based drama from producer-extraordinaire Nick Phillips (“Feast”). Since it ain’t an action movie, and will require some acting, this could be good for Chestnut – who hasn’t really had a chance to shine in anything for a while.

Former 80s villain Bill Duke (remember him from “Predator”?) will direct the movie, which revolves around a couple whose strength and faith are tested after the wife is injured in a car crash and the husband becomes attracted to another woman.

Chestnut’s actually having quite a good year this year – he’s starring alongside The Rock in Disney’s “The Game” soon, and also appears in “A Perfect Christmas”, with Queen Latifah, from producer Mike Elliot.

Shooting is scheduled to begin June 11 in Los Angeles.
