Clint’s Bits – 19/10/09

Clint’s off doing something much more exciting than, say, manning the back-end of something that starts with M and ends with Hole (and has nothing to do with My Mrs) – alas, he’s got a few elves without lives to take care of such dark places. I’m here doing Clint’s Bits today – – think he’d be pissed if I changed the name?

– Is a “Scary Movie” reboot in the works? Maybe. Will Anna Faris be back? Not if it’s a reboot. Will the humour of the first film return? ‘Fraid we’re probably shit out of luck there too. (Cinema Blend)

– Director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck has emerged as the top choice to direct the Spyglass thriller “The Tourist”. Last week Clint mentioned that Charlize Theron had dropped out and Angelina Jolie had dropped into it. (Variety)

– Kristina Anapau (“Cursed”, “Knight Rider”) tells Cinema Blend a little bit about the character she’s playing in the upcoming Eric Stoltz werewolf movie “First Howl” (Think I know the writer). Anapau says she’ll be playing “a fiery young woman named Sammi who takes matters into her own hands when betrayed by a lover. Sammi injects a lot of humor into her revenge tactics…she’s a very lovable character underneath all her mischievousness”.

– Screen Gems has acquired “The Black Phantom,” a spec comedy by first-time scribes Dave Lease and Megan Hinds. In the pic, a double-crossed Caucasian mob hitman turns for help to an unlikely source: the title character, an African-American hitman who was hired to kill him. (Variety)

– On the weekend Aint it Cool run a rumour suggesting Jackie Earle Haley was playing Sinestro in “The Green Lantern”. By Sunday, Haley had essentially debunked the report (via a video interview with Collider). Meantime, Bloody Disgusting also caught up with the Oscar Nominated actor – and asked him about a “Elm Street” sequel.

– Scott Derrickson (“The Day the Earth Stood Still”) has been tapped by Lakeshore Entertainment to direct supernatural suspense thriller “The Living.” Hopefully it’s better than Derrickson’s last effort – the celluloid snoozefest that was “The Day the Earth Stood Still”. (Variety)

– Will Ferrell is starring in “Everything Must Go”. Brilliant script… way too brilliant for Ferrell!

– It’s been rumoured for months, but seems Wes Craven may have signed on the dotted line to helm
“Scream 4”. Hopefully Jamie Kennedy isn’t eyeing a return trip. (Cinema Blend)

– Scott Stuber has acquired screen rights to “American Rust,” the debut novel from Philipp Meyer. “The Motorcycle Diaries” duo of Walter Salles and Jose Rivera are attached to helm and pen the script, respectively. The story centers around two longtime friends from an economically depressed steel town in Pennsylvania whose dreams of escaping to California are dashed when they’re implicated in a crime. The novel was recently short-listed for the 2009 Center for Fiction First Novel Prize. (Variety)

– Stan Lee talks about his cameo in “Iron Man 2” with Collider.

– I just about did a slider in my bottoms when I read the Variety headline that a new film called “Monster Squad” has been announced. Thankfully, it ain’t a remake of Fred Dekker’s 1987 classic! Still, why must Warner Bros use the same name!? Don’t they know what that title means to poindexters like myself!? Anyway, this new Frankenstein-less film will be helmed by “Shrek Forever After” director Mike Mitchell, and is based on a Michael Arndt script about a neurotic father who must face childhood monsters.

– Laura Dern (Hot stuff in “Rambling Rose” all those years ago) will play the headmistress of the elementary school that the Fockers’ kids attend in the forthcoming “Little Fockers”. (The Hollywood Reporter)

– Jude Law and Robert De Niro apparently have roles in “Thor”, only nobody seems to know who they’re playing.

– Kristen Prout has been cast as the vampire Lucy in “The Twilight Saga : Eclipse”, according to E! Online.

Collider caught up with the producers of “Hitman” to talk about their plans for a – shit no! – sequel.

– Miley Cyrus has filmed a cameo in “Sex and the City 2”. Dunno about you but I’m gonna need a wipe. (Coming Soon)

– Good news Clint, that show you love “Southland” may have been saved. Two networks are apparently battling to be it’s new owner. You can see for yourself at The Hollywood Reporter.
