Now this – as opposed to say, Sony’s bland-looking “Total Recall” remake – is what I call an exciting-looking science-fiction blockbuster.
Director Rian Johnson and stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Emily Blunt took to the stage today at Comic-Con to speak about this unique time-travel movie.
- Johnson came up with the idea about ten years ago. It was a script inspired by the works of Philip K.Dick (ironically, the man behind the source material of “Total Recall”)
- Gordon-Levitt’s character was written specifically for him
- Blunt’s character gets caught up in Gordon-Levitt’s character’s plight when the latter refuses to terminate his future self (played by Bruce Willis)
- 4-5 minutes of film was shown, including scenes with Jeff Daniels (as Gordon-Levitt’s boss) and some nice melee between Willis and Gordon-Levitt, playing the same character at different ages. The film looks as funny as it’s no doubt action-packed
- To prepare for playing a younger version of Bruce Willis, Gordon-Levitt studied the actor’s movies and listened to Willis’s voice on his iPod
- Blunt decided to do the film after reading just “30 pages” of the screenplay
- Johnson, aside from Dick, was inspired by “The Terminator”
- Gordon-Levitt mentioned that Willis was quiet and quite reserved on set, but also seemed very enthusiastic about the movie.
- Though Emily Blunt had her work cut out for her, Gordon-Levitt said he didn’t actually do any physical training for this picture.
My must-see movie of 2013 : “Looper”. By far.
