“Alvin” and company headed to the big screen

As Rick Solomon would say “No, nothing is sacred”.

80s phenomenon (though they actually first popped up in the 1950s), “Alvin and The Chipmunks” are headed to the big screen, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Tim Hill, who directed kiddish efforts “Muppets in Space” and “Garfield 2”, is being lined up to direct.

Like the lasagna-loving Garfield – voiced by Bill Murray in the two Fox comedies; if you can call them that – the Chipmunk’s will be CGI. And like the “Garfield” movies, a human actor will be cast to play opposite the computer generated singing trio. Apparently they’re keen on getting a comedian to fill that part.

Ross Bagdasarian Jr., son of the late Ross Bagdasarian Sr., who created the Chipmunks, is producing along with Janice Karman, president of Bagdasarian Prods., which is producing the project with Fox.

What’s next for Eddie Murphy?
