Coogan replaces Hoffman in Happyish

Steve Coogan

Steve Coogan will star in Showtime comedy pilot “Happyish”, filling the role that was initially intended for the late Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

Following Hoffman’s death earlier this year, the project was put on hold in a bid to recast the role.

With Coogan now confirmed to star, production will go ahead in December in New York.

The half-hour pilot centres on Coogan’s character Thom Payne, a 44-year-old British expatriate whose world is thrown into disarray when he gets a new, tech-savvy 25-year-old “wunderkind” boss.
Author Shalom Auslander created, wrote and exec produces the show. Ken Kwapis will direct the pilot and exec produce with his producing partner Alexandra Beattie via their In Cahoots company.
