Crank 3 and Transformers 4 on Statham’s radar?

Though rumoured for the best part of a couple of years, “Crank” co-director Mark Neveldine have at least confirmed a second sequel to the Jason Statham-Amy Smart actioner is indeed in the works.

“With Crank, basically, you insert another quarter and you play the game again”, the filmmaker tells Empire. “It’s kind of like what thrills me and Brian, it’s whatever we feel like doing there in the moment, whatever we wanna do, we just do and make it happen. The important thing is what powers Chev. It was adrenaline that kept him alive in the first one, it was electricity in the second one, you know, it’s all about what will keep him alive in the third one. It’s just fun slinging those ideas around…Crank 3 is going to happen, the studios are really excited about it – it’s just all about timing.”

Neveldine and partner Brian Taylor also admitted to having a bit of a man crush on actor Idris Elba, who co-stars in their upcoming “Ghost Rider : Spirit of Vengeance”; they hope to have Elba play a part in the third “Crank”.

“We joking-but-not-quite-jokingly joked about that with Idris while we were over in Romania and Turkey. Just trying to figure out a way of getting him into Crank 3. There are so many different ways that Crank 3 could go. We’ve been talking about the top 50 ideas we what to do for Crank 3, so we’re just trying to pair them down.”

Meanwhile, and despite previously denying the unyielding rumour, “Transformers” star Tyrese Gibson tweeted – in an exchange with co-star Ken Jeong – that an actor with the initials “JS” will be joining the franchise. Jason Statham’s name has been floated before in relation to the good-as-on “Transformers 4”, sooo it’s likely that’s who Gibson is referring to…Unless, of course, my old mate Jonathan Silverman has been thrown a bone. And quite honestly, I’d much prefer to watch Jonathan battle the decepticons than Statham, the boy needs to squeeze out of the pigeonhole he’s found himself in. Expect another denial in a day or so from Statham’s peeps, but it sure is looking like someone’s trying to pull the wool over our eyes isn’t it!?
