A sweaty elevator full of critics were lucky enough to screen “Wonder Woman” (sounds like I’m referring to a bunch of momma’s boys visiting some kind of peep show attraction) earlier in the week but were pistol-to-the-head gagged as far as letting the world know what they thought of the long-awaited superheroine event.
The good news? Diana doesn’t have any underarm hair in the movie.
Better news? DC have their first decent movie in a long, long time (dare I say the first one since Christopher Nolan’s “Dark Knight Rises”?) by sounds.
Comparing it to classic Saturday matinee pulp efforts of yesteryear, and likening it to fellow superhero origin yarns “Thor” and “Captain America”, the adventure-movie throwback seems to have dampened briefs largely because of it’s humour, heart and appealing lead character. Some have likened Gal Gadot’s turn as Wonder Woman to Christopher Reeve’s in “Superman” – just as good, wholesome, non-emo take on a beloved superhero.
Here’s some of the feedback swirling around the twittersphere :
WONDER WOMAN is great. My favorite of the recent DC movies. It’s fierce, funny, well-written and badass. @GalGadot owns it. Her lasso FTW pic.twitter.com/rQ0ufZxWXP

Very pleased to report that #WonderWoman is the best DC movie since THE DARK KNIGHT. I’m already looking forward to seeing it again.

WONDER WOMAN: Easily my favorite DCEU film. Has the humor and heart the franchise so desperately needs. Gadot and Pine are charming as hell.

Loved WONDER WOMAN. She reminds me of Christopher Reeve’s Superman: true north superhero w/ no angst or cynicism, which is needed right now.

The most wonderful thing about WONDER WOMAN is the wonderful Wonder Woman. Gal IS Wonder Woman. Now then, about WONDER WOMAN

Chris Pine as Steve Trevor is also my favorite Chris Pine performance. #WonderWoman

#WonderWoman is the best DCEU film so far. The heart of Gal Gadot’s Diana powers it, and the shift from mythic into WWI story really works.

I’m finally allowed to say it: I loved #WonderWoman! I teared up watching her fight. The Amazons kick ass! #SheIsWonderWoman @PattyJenks <3

Sounds like congratulations might be in order – – and most of the praise to be directed towards both Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot.
