Dax Shepard replaces Danny Masterson in The Ranch

Dax Shepard is joining “The Ranch” as a recurring guest star for the second half of its 20-episode third season on Netflix. Shepard won’t be a season regular, and isn’t essentially a replacement for Danny Masterson – the former co-lead on the show.

According to Deadline, “The Ranch” is a multi-camera comedy revolving around the dysfunctional Bennett family on their Colorado ranch and Shepard will play Luke Matthews, a former soldier who has come to Garrison with some history concerning the Iron River Ranch. He meets the Bennetts and forms an immediate bond with Colt (Ashton Kutcher) and his father Beau (Sam Elliott), but Luke’s past has a way of catching up with him.

Shepard has previously worked with Kutcher on “Punk’d”, and is expected to be on the season for approximately 10 episodes. Masterson played Colt’s older brother Rooster, and was let go from the show following sexual assault allegations. His episodes haven’t yet aired on Netflix, but it’s been noted that he had only filmed 9 so far. The rest of the episodes will be filmed later this year, with Shepard’s character in place.
