Director announced for Doctor Strange 2

Surprise! Scott Derrickson will retain his role as director on a sequel to “Doctor Strange”, Heat Vision reports.

The filmmaker – who recently lost his house in the Malibu fires, like so, so many – co-wrote and directed the 2016 original, which grossed $677.7 million worldwide. Derrickson, who got his break with 2005’s “The Exorcism of Emily Rose”, will direct the new instalment; the search is on for a writer.

Benedict Cumberbatch will return as Stephen Strange, the good doctor turned master of the mystic arts, as will Benedict Wong, who played his right-hand man, Wong. Rachel McAdams, who played Stephen Strange’s love interest, is likely to return as well.

In a recent interview, “Doctor Strange” co-writer C. Robert Cargill hinted that we’ll likely see more of Chiwetel Ejiofor‘s Baron Mordo in the next film[s].

“For those of you who have ever read the comics, you know that Baron Mordo has a very particular arc, and that’s something we discussed with Chiwetel while working on the first movie. And part of the reason Chiwetel wanted to play Mordo was because he has a definitive ending as a character and it’s such a fascinating ending. And I do know that whether we’re attached or not, that Marvel plans on working towards that ending and fully realizing Mordo as more than just a cardboard cutout villain, but actually taking him to kind of Loki levels of awesomeness. That’s the goal with him.”

“Doctor Strange 2” will likely get underway in 2020, with a release planned for 2021.

The Sorcerer Supreme last appeared in this year’s “Avengers : Infinity War”.
