Caffeinated Clint
The long proposed feature film version of TVs “24”, with Kiefer Sutherland reprising Jack Bauer, could be dead. That’s according to filmmaker Antoine Fuqua (“Training Day”) who was originally attached to helm the project, and looking to begin filming it sometime this year.
Speaking to The Playlist, Fuqua, out pimping his new movie “Olympus Has Fallen”, says he doesn’t believe a “24” movie will happen. Too many issues there, it seems.
“Yeah, that’s not happening. I don’t think it’s gonna happen at all, definitely not with me,” Fuqua shrugs, putting the stake in what has always been a pretty tenuous project. “I met with Kiefer [Sutherland], Fox wanted to do it, it was a matter of his schedule before he went off to do his new show [’Touch‘].” The story that circulated was that there were budgetary disputes, as well as the matter of a meager offer to Sutherland, and Fuqua leans towards that by admitting, “I don’t think he was able to get a proper agreement with Fox. The time just passed, and I went off to go to what I was doing.”
It has been quite a while since “24” has been off the air, no surprise the project has gone away then I suppose?
But Kiefer Sutherland, speaking here to Ellen last month, is definitely doing a good job of keeping the flame burning. He says they’ve a script they like, and he hopes it comes to fruition, but his schedule with “Touch” has made it a bit difficult right now.
Billy Ray (“Shattered Glass”) wrote one of the many drafts of the film, it’s assumingly the script Sutherland’s referring to.
On a side note, the late Tony Scott was at one time also interested in the prospect of bringing “24” to the big screen. That would’ve been a slick flick!
