Disney developing Delilah Dirk And The Turkish Lieutenant film

Disney is bringing Tony Cliff’s graphic novel series “Delilah Dirk And The Turkish Lieutenant” to the big screen.

The studio is developing a live-action film based on the action adventure story about Delilah, a female swashbuckler in the early 19th century who escapes a Turkish prison and befriends a mild-mannered officer named Selim who becomes her sidekick.

In the book, Delilah battles pirates and escapes on her flying boat while seeking adventures around the globe. It should provide Disney with a new film – perhaps a franchise, if all things go as planned – with a female hero and a multi-ethnic cast.

Roy Lee (Vertigo) is producing with Mark Mower and Justin Giritlian who secured the rights to the property.

The news comes via Deadline.
