Disney’s Splash remake sets Channing Tatum & Jillian Bell in gender-swapped roles

Disney is developing a re-imagining of “Splash”, the 1984 film which starred Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah a young man and a mermaid who fall in love.

Interestingly though, the remake is set to swap the gender roles, with Tatum on board to play a male version of Hannah’s character and Bell set to play Hanks’ role.

Deadline broke the news, reporting Marja-Lewis Ryan is writing the script.

Imagine’s Ron Howard and Bryan Grazer – who worked on the original – will produce along with Free Association’s Tatum, Reid Carolin and Peter Kieran. Imagine’s Anna Culp will exec produce.
