Dito Montiel – Boulevard

Written by Douglas Soesbe, directed by Dito Montiel (“A Guide to Recogonizing Your Saints,” “The Son of No One”), and starring the late Robin Williams (Nolan/ “Aladdin”, “Mrs. Doubtfire”) Kathy Baker (Joy/ Picket Fences) Bob Odenkirk (Winston/ Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) and Roberto Aguire (Leo/”Struck by Lightning”) “Boulevard” tells the story of Nolan, a man who is living a lie in order to be accepted by society and be subject to all the privileges that “normal” people are allowed to have. While living in a marriage of convenience where he and his wife both have separate lives he falls in love with a young male prostitute and learns quickly that regardless of how this new relationship plays out he has to make a choice, continue living a lie and have the “American Dream” or live an honest life and risk losing what he has.

I had the chance to converse over the phone with the Montiel. He spoke to me about Woody Allen being an influence for him in his works, the importance of the scenes, and characters relationships feeling as real as possible and what is like working with this dream cast. The film opens in NY at the Landmark Sunshine on July 10. For those not in NY the film will come to a theater near you on July 17th.
