Doug Liman, Tom Hardy doing Splinter Cell

Doug Liman (“The Bourne Identity”) will direct Tom Hardy in the long-gestating feature film adaptation of “Splinter Cell”, according to Deadline.

The film, based on the top-selling video game, has been in development at Universal since 2002. At that time, Dwayne Johnson was attached to play the lead role of Sam Fischer, an agent assigned to top-secret National Security branch-off The Third Echelon.

Eric Warren Singer (“The International”) wrote the screenplay.

Liman’s next film is the Tom Cruise vehicle “Edge of Tomorrow”, while Hardy appears as the title character in “Mad Max : Fury Road”.
