Dragon Tattoo, Tinker Tailor, Bridesmaids sequel talk on Oscar Red Carpet

If you were looking for a scoop this weekend, chances are you’d have had a spot on the red carpet at the Oscars. It’s there that bigwigs like Gary Oldman and Rooney Mara – didn’t she look smoking in that white number?! – were happy to stump their prospective future gigs, namely sequels to the films they were ballyhooing at the Oscars.

Rooney Mara told MTV that she hopes she gets to reprise Lisbeth Salander for the prospective “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” sequels – but hasn’t heard a peep from Sony. “I don’t know anything. I wish that I had the answers,” she said. “You know, I hope that we get to make the other two, but I just don’t know anything yet.” With “Tattoo” helmer David Fincher busy working on a new series, it’s likely he won’t have time to direct the next two films in the ‘Millennium trilogy’, and Mara’s Okay with that. “Yeah, I would respect that. I mean, of course it would be very difficult, but I would understand that and I would respect that,” she said.

Another Oscar nominee, Gary Oldman wasn’t muzzled from divulging plans for a sequel to the acclaimed “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”. “I’m glad that [my nomination] was [for] Tinker Tailor Solider Spy, and we’re very proud of the film. But we may be doing Smiley’s People, so I might get another go at it”, he told the BBC. Based on the book of the same name, “Smiley’s People” sees George Smiley called out from retirement to investigate the death of one of his old agents, a former Soviet General, titular head of an Estonian émigré organization based in London. Smiley learns the General had discovered information that leads to a final confrontation with George Smiley’s nemesis, the Soviet spy-master Karla.

TheFabLife.com caught up with a couple of the “Bridesmaids” cast and crew to talk about the sequel-nobody-wants-to-do – well, except the lesser-known cast members of the 2010 hit. “Someone needs to think of an idea that’s as good or better, and then someone has to have time to write it. And so far, nobody does!” actress Wendi McLendon-Covey said. “We’re all super busy. Kristen has back-to-back projects for probably three years, at least…It’s not that nobody wants to do it, because we all do. We don’t want to do it just to do it.”
