Eddie Redmayne to star in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

After months of speculation, Eddie Redmayne has officially been cast as Newt Scamander in Warner Bros’ adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter” spinoff “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”.

Newt Scamander is the Wizarding World’s preeminent magizoologist, who in his travels has encountered and documented a myriad of magical creatures, ultimately leading to his penning the Hogwarts School textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

“Eddie Redmayne has emerged as one of today’s most extraordinarily talented and acclaimed actors,” said Warner Bros’ President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production, Greg Silverman. “We are thrilled to welcome him into J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, where we know he will deliver a remarkable performance as Newt Scamander, the central character in ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.’”

Rowlingwill make her screenwriting debut on the project with David Yates (director of the last four “Harry Potter” films) set to helm. Producers are David Heyman, Rowling, Steve Kloves and Lionel Wigram.

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is slated for release on November 18, 2016.
