Emily Blunt as Ms Marvel in The Avengers 2?

It seems dreadfully early to be playing the casting game on Marvel’s “Avengers” sequel (considering the movie doesn’t come out until 2015), nevertheless The Daily Mail seems confident in their claim that English belles Emily Blunt (“Looper”) and Ruth Wilson (TV’s “Luther”) are being considered for the role of ‘Ms Marvel’ in “The Avengers 2”.

While the British press are renowned for their bogus claims, especially when it comes to film casting, this isn’t so far-fetched. It’s natural Emily Blunt would be on Marvel’s radar, considering her status as one of Hollywood’s most prized properties right now, not to mention her involvement with one of this year’s big smashes, “Looper”.

The dubious bit is the ‘Ms Marvel’ bit. First time anyone’s mentioned that character will be – or even suggested she could be – a part of Joss Whedon’s superhero sequel.

Ms Marvel, for those not familiar, is Carol Danvers who, originally, was with the United States Air Force. The character, who has been around since the ’60s, initially possessed superhuman strength, endurance, stamina, flight, physical durability, a limited precognitive “sixth sense”, and a perfectly amalgamated human/Kree physiology that rendered her resistant to most toxins and poisons, with the added effect of making her body virtually invulnerable and indestructible.

The article says :

Meanwhile, British actresses Emily Blunt and Ruth Wilson are head-to-head in a race for the most sought-after new female role in Hollywood.

Emily, 29, below, star of The Young Victoria, and Ruth, 30, from TV’s Luther, are both hotly tipped to play superhero Ms Marvel in Avengers 2, the sequel to Avengers Assemble, one of the biggest box office hits of all time.

The new movie is due to begin shooting next year. Whoever is chosen will star alongside Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr and Chris Hemsworth, who will reprise their comic-book hero roles.

Take it with a grain of salt for now.

The only sure thing we know about “The Avengers” sequel is that Joss Whedon has agreed to write and direct it, and that most of the original cast – including Robert Downey Jr and Chris Hemsworth – will probably be back.
