Emma Stone says she passed on this huge franchise…

Even with “Aloha” flopping like a popped whoopee cushion, Emma Stone’s career seems to be in good enough shape that she doesn’t need to fall back on a big franchise to see it continues going swimmingly.

Outed as a contender for a role when it was first announced, Stone tells The Wall Street Journal she passed on Paul Feig’s “Ghostbusters” because she was still feeling the after-burn of being involved in another of Sony’s big franchises, “The Amazing Spider-Man”, at the time.

”The script was really funny. It just didn’t feel like the right time for me. A franchise is a big commitment – it’s a whole thing. I think maybe I need a minute before I dive back into that water.”

No idea which role Feig was originally chasing Stone for but he ended up with Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon and Chris Hemsworth – we’re pretty sure it wasn’t the same role Thor nabbed.

It’d also seem Stone is wanting to take a more artistic, original route for the time being. Her next film is Damien Chazelle’s musical “La La Land”, co-starring regular co-star Ryan Gosling.
