Exclusive : Burger, King of Narnia?

“Illusionist” director approached for “Dawn Trader”?

Moviehole’s heard some pretty steadfast murmur this afternoon that Neil Burger, director of “The Illusionist”, may have been approached to direct the next instalment in the “Chronicles of Narnia” series.

Its alien terrain for Burger – the family fantasy flick – but no doubt his knockout visuals in the Edward Norton/Paul Giamatti number impressed someone over there at Walden.

Andrew Adamson, director of the first two instalments in the cash-cow series, has decided to sit this next one – believed to be the film version of “”The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” – out.

“Dawn Treader” was the third Narnia book written by C.S Lewis. Chronologically, it takes place between the event described in ‘Prince Caspian’ and ‘The Silver Chair’.
In it, Lucy and Edmund, accompanied by their peevish cousin Eustace, sail to the land of Narnia where Eustace is temporarily transformed into a green dragon because of his selfish behaviour and scepticism.

In addition to feeling out Burger for directing duties, Walden Media is apparently considering shooting the film in Australia. No word on whether that means Melbourne’s Dockland studios or further up, say at Sydney’s FOX Studios, or on the Gold Coast.

More word on this as I receive it…
