Exclusive : Revenge of the Nerds reunion film in the works!

We’re headed back to Adams!

Umpteen years after Fox let the one-time reigning teen comedy series die a slow and painful death – via some truly lacklustre sequels in telemovie and DTV form – is bringing back the Nerds!

With Disney now in charge of “Revenge of the Nerds” – and, well, everything else not tied down at 2121 Avenue of the Stars – the studio have kicked off development on a revival film. Robert Carradine, currently back at Disney for the recently-announced Lizzie McGuire sequel series, is expected to reprise his role as Betty-luvvin Lewis Skolnick, along with the rest of the cast of the original films. Timothy Busfield, Larry B.Scott, Curtis Armstrong, Brian Tochi and Andrew Cassese were among that original line-up, along with Anthony Edwards who went on to, of course, big-time TV fame.

Edwards may have starred in the original Jeff Kanew-directed film, but he only returned for a cameo in 1987’s “Revenge of the Nerds II : Nerds in Paradise”.

It’s believed the actors themselves lobbied Disney and sparked their interest in a new “Nerds” film.

A remake of the original, with Kyle Newman (“Fanboys”), was slated for release in 2007, the first project for the newly created Fox Atomic, but was canceled in November 2006 after two weeks of filming. Adam Brody and Katie Cassidy would’ve starred.

Stay tuned for more on this but sounds like it’s as good as a done thing. The ‘nerd’ in me is excited (*laughs loudly and nerdishly*).
